More blooms!
First Iris of the Year
Anya and I walked around the property today, checking on our new blueberry and hop plants. She noticed something over along the ridge line; and, when we walked over to it, we found the first iris of the season had bloomed!
Bulbs For Next Year
The fall planted bulbs are in bloom, and we know what grew well here (and what didn’t — wild tulips survive well here, but the big, beautiful Dutch tulips become a rodent buffet. I’ve tried mixing them with other bulbs to no avail. As much as I love the Dutch tulips, I’m not buying more this year.). It’s time to put in an order for this Autumn. I order bulbs from both ColorBlends and Old House Gardens. This year we’ll be planting daffodils:

ColorBlends (one of my two favorite places to buy bulbs) was having a pre-season sale … and here are the bulbs I’m ordering for Autumn planting. When Old House Gardens has a sale, I’ll add some more heirloom bulbs too … but all of these should naturalize.
