We spent some time clearing a path to the maple trees — not wading through privet makes collecting sap a lot easier! Anya found some moss she really liked, and she wants to propagate it in a moist, shady spot by the house.

First Buzzard Sighting – 2023
We were building our log archway this evening, and I thought there were a few geese coming in off the lake … but they were flying strangely (well, strangely for geese anyway). Gliding through the air, I saw five buzzards! They are really early this year (although they were also flying south … so maybe they thought better of hanging out this far north in January?).
Autumn Sunset
There was a beautiful sunset this evening – we sat in the front yard and enjoyed the view.
Double Rainbow
We had a quick deluge today, followed by some sun, followed by more rain — and, in the middle, there was a double rainbow over the lake!
First Buzzard Sighting – 2022
Anya and I saw a single buzzard on Sunday, but today was the first time we saw a whole flock circling …
First Robins of 2022
I saw the first robins today, but I was not able to get a picture 
A whole flock were perched in the sumac tree along the ridgeline by our chicken coop — I presume pecking through the last seeds still sticking to the tree. They flew away seconds after I registered the colouring and thought “hey, robins!”.
